Just after the first big expo (PlayStation Experience) in these parts, India's first Gaming Summit will be held tomorrow (which is 28th November, for those who don’t have a calendar), organized by Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd. and The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). The summit will have leading personalities from different fields, including gaming, media and advertising.
The event will be held at Taj Land's End in Mumbai and will be attended by key industry personnel such as David Christensen of Sony Online Entertainment (USA), Desmond Lu Guanghang of Shanda Entertainment (a leading gaming company in China) and Mohit Anand of Microsoft India.
You’re probably wondering why the event’s being held. I’ll let Rohit Sharma, COO of Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd., answer that:
"India is today getting recognized as a potential market for gaming. We are happy to recognize the need for a separate identity for the industry and bring together leading influential personalities on a common platform. Till date gaming has been seen from limited perspectives. Our endeavor is to create a platform that views this industry more holistically. We are confident that our association with IAMAI and Intel will enhance and highlight the importance of this Summit and add credibility to our efforts."
It’s good to see gaming being recognized as a popular core entertainment medium in India as well. The fact that Shanda Entertainment’s representative’s going to be there suggests that there’ll probably be a lot of talk (and announcements too, may be) about the online gaming scene. Quite frankly, online gaming is one area that can really be capitalized on at this point in the Indian gaming market, so let’s hope that something good comes out of this summit in that respect. We’ll keep you posted with the event’s details once it’s over.
