If you’ve been hoping for DivX support in the Xbox Live update, you’re in for a disappointment. If you need to share your sorrow but don’t have too many people on your friends list, the good news is that after the update you’ll be able to share it with your friends’ friends too!
The update that’ll debut on December 4th will have a ‘Friends of Friends’ feature that’ll allow you to connect with the people on your friends’ lists.
Thankfully, the service will be tweakable to allow or disallow this feature, or simply allow people on your friends list to see other friends of yours. Those over 18 years of age will have this feature on by default, while those under 13 will have this feature locked (in the name of safety).
Microsoft has always talked of XBL as a gaming community service; I guess this takes it a step further into social-networking territory, which is a good thing. But quite frankly, I’d prefer DivX support!
