'PIC will be revived' - AMD

AMD had earlier canned the PIC (Personal Internet Communicator System) intended for developing countries, but now plans to revive it with new reference designs in the next two months. The new reference designs will come in various configurations and will feature the low cost Geode processors.

AMD Chief Innovation Officer Billy Edward says that AMD is back to its core competency of selling chips. They will make reference designs and work with OEMs and ODMs but will not make an end product.
Among the available operating systems are the Windows Starter Edition and Windows Professional. Intended for developing markets it will directly compete with the OLPC.
