The Tech Report has reported that AMD's recently introduced QuadFX series of enthusiast processors, is now available in the online retail channels. These processors are being sold by well known vendors such as Newegg and ZZF (Zipzoomfly). These new processors are direct competitors, to Intel's Core2Extreme which has been shipping since late October and has quickly become the CPU of choice, for extreme gamers and power users.
However anyone looking to upgrade to this platform will need to wait a while. The processor is being currently sold at an expensive premium with price markups of as much as $25 to $50 over AMD's indicated market retail price. If that was not bad enough, the supporting motherboard for this platform namely Asus's L1N64-SLI WS is being sold for nearly $80 more than its indicated retail price.
