Fujitsu Launches New Lifebook Models

Fujitsu has announced two new additions to its SOHO and business user lines: the Lifebook S6510 and the Lifebook S2710. These laptops are designed with both security and performance in mind for the road warrior or the busy executive.

The 14.1-inch widescreen LifeBook S6510 weighs just 4 pounds and packs an array of features ranging from a choice of speedy Intel Core 2 Duo processors (ranging from 2 GHz to 2.4 GHz clock speed), up to 4GB RAM, a combo DVD/CD-RW or dual-layer DVD writer, a selection of shock-mounted hard drives ranging from 40GB to 120GB, a magnesium-alloy body, turbo memory, 1.3-megapixel webcam for videoconferencing, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Windows Vista Business or XP operating system.

The S7210 boasts the same features as the S6510, but includes a dedicated smartcard slot, an ExpressCard/54 slot and an option of using Windows Vista Home Premium in addition to Vista Business or XP.

In terms of security, Fujtisu has provided a biometric fingerprint reader, TPM, a theft-deterrent security panel with more than 800,000 passwords, and the optional Computrace LoJack service, which tracks and recovers lost or stolen notebooks when they connect to the web.

The Fujitsu LifeBook S6510 ($1,529) and LifeBook S7210 ($1,329) are now available in retail channels.

'Friends of Friends' Feature on XBL This Fall

If you’ve been hoping for DivX support in the Xbox Live update, you’re in for a disappointment. If you need to share your sorrow but don’t have too many people on your friends list, the good news is that after the update you’ll be able to share it with your friends’ friends too!

The update that’ll debut on December 4th will have a ‘Friends of Friends’ feature that’ll allow you to connect with the people on your friends’ lists.

Thankfully, the service will be tweakable to allow or disallow this feature, or simply allow people on your friends list to see other friends of yours. Those over 18 years of age will have this feature on by default, while those under 13 will have this feature locked (in the name of safety).

Microsoft has always talked of XBL as a gaming community service; I guess this takes it a step further into social-networking territory, which is a good thing. But quite frankly, I’d prefer DivX support!
